The Convoy of Plateau state Governor Simon Lalong , on Friday afternoon was involved in a fatal accident at Mikang, in Mikang local government area of the state, leaving two policemen in the convoy dead in the wake of it.

Governor Lalong had gone to the Southern senatorial zone of the state to commission some of the projects executed by his government during his first year in office.

An eye witness in the convoy revealed that the policemen were hanging on a Hilux Van belonging to Operation Rainbow, (the state’s private security outfit), when the driver of the van veered into a corner flinging the unsuspecting victims off the van.

Our correspondent gathered that the victims were said to have landed on their heads resulting in fatal knock, and leading to the immediate death of one. The second also died before he could get medical attention.

The rest of the convoy could not immediately be notified of the incident as a result of the speed of the convoy. Even the bus immediately behind the ill-fated police van were reported to have meandered their way and then sped off without stopping.

When contacted the state Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), Deputy Superintendent Abuh Emmanuel however said he has not received details on the incident from the Mikang Divisional Police Officer (DPO).

According to him, “As I speak to you now, I have not got detail information about the incident. I am waiting now; anytime I get elaborate detailed information I will let you know.”

It was however gathered that the deceased policemen and the van were not part of the convoy from Jos; they only joined the trail from Mikang where Lalong had commissioned one of the projects. They were going with the convoy to Shendam to commission another project.
