FORMER Lagos State Commisioner of
Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, has called on
the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom,
to purge his government of shady characters
if he expects his administration to impact
positively on the lives of Benue people.
“I urge Samuel Ortom to review the
appointment of his aides otherwise they may
discredit and sink his government.”
Tsav stated this in a statement made
available to Nigerian Pilot in Makurdi at the
weekend after Architect Joe Ikyaagba, Special
Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties,
was arrested in connection with the killing of
Igbana Denen, Senior Special Assistant to the
Governor on Security.
It was gathered that Ikyagba along with
one Saaondo aka ‘General’ who benefited
from Ortom’s amnesty programme were
picked up last Friday and detained by the
police.
The state police spokesman, ASP Moses
Yamu, confirmed the arrest of eight persons
among whom he said was a special adviser to the governor, but noted that their names would
be made public later.
Tsav, who is a retired Commissioner of Police,
said he had confirmed the arrest of Ortom’s
aide, adding that ‘General’ was once arrested for
unlawful possession of arms.
He stated that ‘General’ was remanded in
prison custody, but later released at the behest of
the special adviser.
Tsav said by virtue of his office as
the ombudsman and public complaint
commissioner in the state, he receives many
security information on a daily basis, adding
that the fact that Ikyagba and Saaondo were
arrested in connection with the killings of the
governor’s aide may not be a mere coincidence.
It would be recalled that at the grand finale of
a two-week prayer session held in Makurdi, last
Monday, a Gboko-based man of God, Brother
Gbile Akanni, also warned the governor to do
away with people of questionable character
who he said would likely bring down his
administration.
The late senior special assistant on security
was killed by suspected militants who were
alleged to be beneficiaries of the governor’s
amnesty programme.
