As the race for the Edo State governorship hots up, a professor of medicine, Professor Frederick Ebegue Amadasun has stated that the key to the economic transformation of Edo State in the face of the growing inflation in the country remains Information and Communications Technology, ICT, as well as agriculture.
Professor Amadasun stated this in Abuja yesterday as he joined other governorship aspirants under the All Progressives Congress, APC, to submit their nomination forms at the party’s headquarters.
According to him, he intends to build an ICT city in Edo State, the like of the Silicon Valley in Egypt and the Konza ICT community in Kenya.
“Eight years ago, Egypt set out to build a high-speed fibre-optic network, increasing internet speed by 100. Today about 2,000 companies have invested in this digital village, the Silicon Valley. From that venture alone, Egypt rakes in about 8billion dollars annually. By that alone, Egypt has leapfrogged South Africa as the second largest economy in Africa, and it is believed very soon they will overtake Nigeria too to become the largest in Africa.
“Through the inspiration of Barrack Obama, Kenya has followed suit. The Konza ICT community or digital city in Kenya has given their economy a huge boost. The Konza ICT city is today the fastest growing ICT community in the world. It is fast growing than Silicon Valley, which is the largest in the world, followed by India which is now the largest exporter of software in the world. India has gone from being a member of the third world countries to the community of the more advanced countries.
