Edo guber: PDP Ad-hoc delegates’ panel submits report


Ahead of next Monday’s Edo State governorship primaries of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the Committee that handled the election of three Ad-Hoc delegates that will participate in the primaries yesterday in Abuja submitted its report to the National Caretaker Committee.
Chairman of the Electoral panel and former governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswan, said the exercise was hitch-free in all the 192 Wards of Edo State.
According to him, the three governorship aspirants in the race for PDP ticket assisted in ensuring the election of the delegates was successful by signing an agreement to abide by the outcome of the exercise.
He applauded members of Edo State chapter of the party for comporting themselves in a very civilised manner during the delegates election.
The ad-hoc delegates’ election committee chairman further added that, the election of the delegates was officially monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and relevant security agencies.
He said because of the transparent manner the election was conducted, the election appeal panel will have less work to do, as there was no petition from members of the party in the state over the conduct of the exercise.
Hon Suswan declared that from feelers members of the committee received during their visit to Edo State, it is apparent that PDP remains the party to beat during the forthcoming governorship election.
While receiving the report of the committee on behalf of the party’s National Caretaker Committee, Senator Abdul Ningi, who is in charge of Mobilisation and Organisation, gave assurance that only duly elected ad-hoc delegates, in addition to the statutory delegates, will be allowed to participate in the governorship primaries.
He said the era of substitution of delegates in PDP is over as the Caretaker Committee will ensure the governorship primaries is conducted in very credible and transparent manner.
