NASARAWA State House of Assembly has approved request by the state governor, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, to access over N14billion from the federal government’s loan package to enable the state government address some challenges.
Nigerian Pilot gathered that the loan package under the fiscal budget implementation support plan is aimed at assisting state governments facing financial challenges, especially payment of workers’ salaries.
Speaker of the Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi announced the approval of the loan at plenary after a debate on a letter presented to it by majority leader, Umar Tanko Tunga (APC-Awe North), on behalf of the state governor.
The speaker, who commended members of the House for their maturity and understanding in approving the loan request, urged the state government to pay greater attention to payment of workers’ salaries when the fund was finally accessed.
Abdullahi directed the clerk of the Assembly to communicate the resolution of the house to the governor for further necessary action.
Earlier, Tunga said: “I want to present this letter on behalf of Governor Tanko Al-Makura seeking the house to approve N14.1billoin for the state government to access the federal government loan package under the fiscal budget implementation support plan.”
He explained that the fund, if accessed, would enable the state government provide the much needed dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
