A’Ibom employs 1600 youths through AKEES – Gov Udom

Despite the economic crunch experienced in the country, Akwa Ibom State Government has employed more than 1600 youths in different fields through a franchise scheme known as Akwa Ibom Employment and Enterprise Scheme, AKEES.
According to Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel who spoke through his Special Assistant on Media, Aniefiok Macauley, he noted that with the introduction of Akwa Ibom Employment and Enterprise Scheme, AKEES, a franchise scheme incorporating both technical and vocational skill acquisition and entrepreneurial training aimed at creating 10,000 jobs for the teeming youths in the state, it has been able to employ over 1600 youths.
“As at the last count more than 1600 people have been employed through AKEES. With 1600 people having employment through AKEES the number of unemployed are gradually reducing” He said
Speaking further, he debunked the claim from some quarters that the state government is nursing the plan to sack some workers considering the high wage bill in the state civil service as compare to the allocation coming into the state which is sometime less than 7million.
“The Governor has not sacked and is not planning to sack anybody worker from the state civil service.
“Agreed the wage bill for Akwa Ibom civil service is quit high and it makes most people feel jittery that with this kind of wage bill and the money coming to the state, sometimes less than 7million in the allocation that the Governor might consider laying off some workers.” He said
While describing the Governor Udom as an astute financial manager, disclosed that he knows how to manage the lame resources that is coming to the state by investing it on industrialization.
“The industrialization policy of the Governor is aiming at reducing unemployment” He said
