Troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force, MNJTF, have arrested 24 Boko Haram suspects during clearance operations along the Nigeria-Cameroon borders, even as one soldier was killed by Improvised Explosive Device, IED while another fatally wounded and lost one of his lower limbs during the operation.
Chief military public information officer of the MNJTF, with its Tactical Headquarters in Makary, Northern Cameroon, Colonel Muhammad Dole confirmed in a statement yesterday that the troops on operation ‘Gama Aiki,’ blocked fleeing Boko Haram militants and cleared 6 villages namely Sagui, Kirta-Woulgo, Gore Mahamat, Gore Blangafe, Chaugry and Damboure, during the operation.
According to him, the operation was embarked upon to flush out fleeing Boko Haram militants from the MNJTF Area of Responsibility, AOR and that the militants in an attempt to escape the firepower of MNJTF troops were migrating to some villages adjacent to the sector 1 AOR.
Colonel Dole said, acting on credible information, the troops successfully cleared the six villages occupied by the militants, seized some logistic equipment and apprehended twenty four suspected militants.
The troops recovered equipment are 20 x out boat engines, 2 x motorcycles, 9 generating sets, 1 solar panel, 1 grinding machine, 1 handset, flags and some Islamic religious books.
