Salesman docked for allegedly stealing perfume worth N600

A salesman, Gift Omoh, who allegedly stole his employer’s perfume valued at N600, was on Friday arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Omoh, 49, who resides at Abule-Egbe area of Lagos State, is facing a charged of stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 26 at Abule-Egba, Lagos.

He said that the accused stole the perfume from a Super Market where he worked.

Nwosu alleged that a supervisor at the store announced that the perfume was missing, but all the staff claimed innocence.

“The perfume was declared missing, all the staff including the accused denied taking or stealing the perfume.

“The CCTV camera was eventually played, and the accused was seen taking the perfume from the store and exited the mall.

“The accused later agreed he stole the perfume after he saw himself taking the item from where it was displayed and claimed he sold it immediately he left the mall,” he said.

The offence contravened Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 285 prescribes a three- year jail term for offenders.
The defendant, however, denied committing the offence.

The magistrate, Mr A.A. Adesanya, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate adjourned the case till July 11 for mention. (NAN)
