Edo guber: Odia Ofeimu opts for Labour Party

Foremost author, Odia Ofeimun crashed out of the Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, gubernatorial primaries held on Monday in Benin City due to lack of funds to purchase the nomination forms said to be N7million.
Odia Ofeimu was said to have questioned the rationale behind the purchase of the party nomination form for N7million which he allegedly rejected.
In his stead, a lawyer who a few weeks ago was on the campaign team of APC aspirant, Mr. Ken Imansuagbon, Comrade Cyril Odibo emerged as its governorship candidate for the September 10 governorship election in the state.
Comrade Odibo from Esan South East local government area of the state scored 96 votes out of the 116 votes cast to beat Pastor Amos Areleogbe who scored 17votes while 3 votes were voided.
It was however observed that the former Private Secretary to Chief Obafemi Awolowo and a renowned poet, Mr. Ofeimu Odia was absent at the venue of the primaries as he was said to have boycotted the exercise in protest over the exorbitant fees put on the nomination form by the party.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Odibo commended the national executive of the party for a peaceful primary and called on his co contestants to join him in taking the party to the next level.
He also commended the delegates for having confidence in him to fly the party’s flag in September 10 gubernatorial election, promising that come 2016, Labour Party will win the election to occupy Osadebey Avenue.
The National Secretary of the party, Julius Abure who conducted the election with the State Chairman of the party, Kelly Ogbaloi, in his speech said a total of 120 delegates were accredited for the primary election out of which 116 voted.
