Group suggests way forward for Bauchi govt

FOLLOWING the challenges facing the Bauchi State government that makes it difficult to pay workers’ salaries regularly, a group, Save Bauchi State Organisation, SABSO, has suggested some steps to be taken by the government to address challenges facing the state. SABSO in a letter presented to the state governor, Muhammad Abdullahi Abubakar, yesterday, opined that citizens of the state had a duty to contribute to its success by helping the government in its effort to reposition the state in the face of daunting socio-economic and political challenges. Presenting the letter to the state governor through his senior special assistance on Media, the group chairman, Zaharaddeen Baban Takko said that the letter contained suggestions and advice on 31 key areas, which he said required urgent attention of the government. According to the chairman of the group, some of the key areas as contained in the letter include immediate payment of workers’ salaries, gratuities and pension arrears, compensation to all affected victims of workers verification exercise as well as the implementation of Treasury Single Account, TSA. Other areas include full local government autonomy and publication of recovered loots and properties by the government in national dailies and punishing the people found guilty, including their godfathers.‎ Responding on behalf of the governor, Muhammad commended the group for their foresight in trying to help the government to overcome its difficulties. He described the effort by the group as a patriotic move to move the state forward and called on people of the state to emulate the group by offering solutions to the present predicament facing the state, instead of continue with blind criticism that would not bring any positive change to the state.
