Police smash car theft ring in Imo

FOLLOWING the renewed onslaught and adoption of new strategies to stem the tide of crime and criminality in Imo State, the police command has smashed a four-man armed robbery gang operating in a blue Volkswagen Passat vehicle that specialised in robbing petrol stations and snatching of cars in Ahiazu Mbaise, Obowo, Etiti environs of the state. In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the command, DSP Andrew Enwerem, the police disclosed that one of the victims from Ahiazu Mbaise LGA was robbed of his Toyota Avalon with Reg. No. FJ-609-KRD, at MM Maris Petrol Station, at Aguneze, in Ahiazu Mbaise on July 6, 2016. According to him, “operatives of the command quickly swung into action and cobwebbed the exit routes and three of the notorious suspects fell into the Police cobweb with the stolen vehicle while one escaped with their arms.” Continuing, Enwerem added, “The three suspects were however arrested at Obowo Malaysia Market en route Umuahia Abia State.” He stated that effort is being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspect and urged the public to assist the command with vital information that could lead to the arrest of the fleeing suspect. The police spokesman gave the names of the suspects arrested to include: Chibuike Oko ‘m’ 27yrs of age from Ngodo Afikpo North L.G.A Ebonyi State, Uchenna Kalu ‘m’ 32 yrs of Ihungwu Amankelu Igbere Bende and Ifeanyi Emenike ‘m’ 28yrs of Umuobutu of Umuahia South LGA both of Abia State. DSP Enwerem revealed that the victim and owner of the Toyota Avalon have identified the suspects and they have made useful statements confessing to the crime. He disclosed that exhibits recovered from the suspects include a Volkswagen Passat vehicle and two hundred and eighty two thousand naira, (N282, 000.00) allegedly stolen from their victims.
