Be fair in your political appointments, northern CAN tells Buhari

CHAIRMAN of the 19 northern states and Federal Capital Territory, FCT, of Christians Association of Nigeria, CAN, Rev. Yakubu Pam has urged President Muhammad Buhari to be fair in the sharing of political appointments, saying northern Christians were crying of marginalisation. Rev. Pam in a press statement issued in Jos at the weekend, noted the exclusion of qualified Christians in appointments in to strategic positions under the present administration, even with the numerous competent Christians from all states in the north that merited the responsibility. The northern CAN lamented that while there were volumes of allegations from the south that the appointments made so far were in favour of the north, facts on ground revealed that these appointments were lopsided in favour of Muslim core north to the detriment of northern Christian community. Pam advocated for fairness in the appointment of qualified Nigerians into positions of government, adding that the appointments made so far in the last one year by President Buhari had generated concern among northern Christian community, citing example with the appointment of security chiefs. He advised President Buhari to carry out a review of appointments made into government positions so far to ensure that all sections of Nigeria were given a sense of belonging. In another development, Rev. Pam questioned the reason behind the Minister of Interior, Lt. General Abdulraman Dan Bazau’s announcement of one additional day to the already two official days that were declared as public holidays for Muslim faithful to celebrate Eid El Fitr. He said whatever might be behind such declaration, it was done in bad faith and government should have weighed the implication of having three days out of five working days in a week as public holidays.
