hen Asabe Afrika TV team paid a visit to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja home of former Nigeria’s Minister of Police Affairs, retired General David Medayese Jemibewon (CFR, Mni, fwc) on Friday, July 20, 2018, it turned out to be his 78th birthday celebration and we joined in the fray, celebrating with the former Adjutant General of the Nigeria Army and his family. General Jemibewon a former military administrator (MILAD) of the defunct Western State of Nigeria (1975-1976) and later founding Governor of Oyo State (1976-1979) has much more experience to share with us on what life has taught him as a soldier, administrator and elder statesman.

The General who later became Nigeria’s Police Affairs Minister between 1999 and year 2000 under the regime of former President Olusegun Obasanjo is one of the drafters of the guiding constitution of Nigeria’s opposition party–People’s Democratic Party (PDP). He can be tagged a soldier with political experience. However, at 78, the General like many of his peers is very much unhappy with the way the country has drifted under military and democratic governance.
Recently, while on a trip to England, where he gave out one of his lovely daughters, Omolola Temidayo in Holy Wedlock to a British Army Captain, Samuel Forster (Princess of Wales Regiment), and equally see his doctors, the General nearly refused to return to his base in Nigeria.
He shared this experience with us in this encounter, telling us why he nearly abandoned his country for Britain at that advanced age.
