The former deputy speaker, Abia House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Alwell Asiforo Okere, member representing Ukwa East in the State House of Assembly, Eastern Nigeria on Monday evening has been elected and sworn in as Speaker.
The election took place at the Hallower Chambers of the House. His election followed the formal resignation of the speaker, Rt. Hon Ude Oko Chukwu on last Thursday 28 May, 2015 after he was sworn in as the deputy governor of the state.
