Bank customers make last ditch effort to sign up for BVN
Long queues were witnessed in many banks in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital as residents made last minute rush for to register for the Bank Verification Number (BVN) exercise.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) had directed that account holders in banks across the country register for the exercise to protect their account from the scammers.
The exercise, which requires customers to scan their fingers and take electronic picture will come to an end on Tuesday, June 30, as stipulated by the apex bank.
Our correspondent who moved round banks in Abeokuta reported that all the banking halls within the metropolis was filled to the brim as people in their hundreds trooped out for the last minutes registration.
Investigation also revealed that similar incident happened in Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Ota, Ilaro, Ayetoro, Igbesa, Ijebu Igbo, Ago Iwoye, Agbara, Owode and other parts of the state.
Some bank customers who spoke to PM News appealed to the apex bank to give them more time to do the registration, hinting that, they did not fully understand the implication of not registering for the exercise.
Mrs Victoria Odey, who was lamenting inside the banking hall having spent over three hours, regretted not taking the registration serious. “If I had known that this registration will be like this, I would have done it over a month ago. I never saw it as a serious thing, you know how Nigeria things are. A friend of mine working with FCMB had been pressurising me to do it, but I was always busy.
