A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged before Oshodi Magistrates’ court for breaking into a church and stealing the offering and musical equipment in Oshodi, Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The suspect, Yusuf Waheed, allegedly broke into Covenant Prayer Life Assembly Church located at 16, Unity Crescent, Oshodi and stole N50,000 kept inside the church and musical equipment worth over N300,000.
The items Waheed allegedly stole include Amplifier, Mixer, video CD, video camcorder and the money.
The police alleged that Waheed went to the church in the night, broke the doors and stole the items.
When the pastor went to the church to conduct morning service, he discovered that the door of the church was broken and when he eventually entered, he did not see the musical equipment and the money.
The pastor went to Makinde Police Division and reported the matter which led to the arrest of Waheed.
However, the police recovered the musical equipment but could not recover the offering which Waheed said he had spent.
When he was charged before the court with burglary and stealing under the Criminal Code,he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding Magistrate, Mr A.A. Fashola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
He was remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri, Lagos pending when he will perfect his bail.
