Governor Sule Lamido of Jigawa State
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will today charge former Jigawa state governor Alhaji Sule Lamido and two of his sons to court in Kano, the commission confirmed yesterday.
EFFC agents arrested Lamido and his sons – Aminu and Mustapha – in Abuja on Tuesday on allegation of money laundering.
EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren said the Commission rearrested Lamido and his sons over corruption charges. He said they were likely to be arraigned in court today in Kano.
Aminu and Mustapha were first arrested in November 2013 in Kano over N10bn fraud and flown to Abuja but their trial stalled after their father, who was a member of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) G7 which comprised of seven governors, backtracked on joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Political analysts claim that Lamido refused to defect to the APC because of the immunity he got from the PDP government led by Goodluck Jonathan.
It would be recalled that Lamido flew out of the country shortly before the swearing-in of his successor in May, this year.
On his return the former governor on June 15 submitted himself at the Abuja head offices of the EFCC. …Read More
