7 escape death as 4-storey building collapses in Lagos

Seven people escaped death on Thursday in Yaba area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria as a four-storey building under construction collapsed.
The building on 38 Commercial Avenue, Yaba collapsed around 2:30 pm injuring the labourers working on the building.
PM News gathered that the building caved in causing people around scampering to safety.
General Manager, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Kolawole Michael said that the building was under construction, confirming that nobody died in the collapse.
He said the manifest showed that seven labourers were working on the building before it collapsed but noted that they escaped death as they were on break when the building caved in.

“Fortunately, nobody died in the incident. All the workers in the building escaped. About seven workers, we were told escaped death. However, rescue operation is still in progress to the basement. The building was under construction,” he said.
“We cannot ascertain if anyone is still trapped until we finish with our rescue operation because all what we are dealing with now is the search and rescue operation on the collapsed building. It is when will conclude this that we will able to speak on that,” he added.
According to him, two building‎s beside the collapsed edifice were partially affected by the gravity of the collapsed.
“There are two buildings by the side that are partially affected. One church and one residential building, no serious damage done. Nobody sustained injury,” he reiterated. …Read More
