Senator Iyabo Anisulowo
Pandemonium struck Thursday afternoon as people scampered for their lives during the swearing in ceremony of the members of transition committee of Yewa South local government, Ilaro, Ogun state as hoodlums disrupted activities.
Speaking with our correspondent, an eyewitness, who spoke on the condition of anonymity explained that party faithful who were at the local government secretariat were expressing their grievances over the choice of the vice chairman of the transition committee.
Factional groups in the local government area have been jostling for supremacy over the candidature of who occupies the vice chairman seat.
While the Senator who represented Ogun West at the upper chamber between 2003 -2007, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo supported one Latifat Ajayi for the seat, another faction, basically leaders of the party in the local government preferred one Princess Serifat Adeyinka.
Apart from the fact that Ajayi was a new entrant to the party, who only joined before the governorship election in the state, it was further gathered that she was from the same Ilaro zone with the Chairman of the Committee, Wole Ajayi who was sworn in on Tuesday by the state governor, Ibikunle Amosun.
The source explained that Mama, as Senator Iyabo Anisulowo is being called and her candidate, Latifat Ajayi stormed out of the swearing in ceremony immediately the latter’s name was announced as an ordinary member of the committee and not the vice chairman.
It was further gathered that the thugs allegedly led by the younger brother to Latifat Ajayi identified as Muyiwa Animasahun, immediately stormed the venue and started throwing bottles, chairs and other dangerous weapons, forcing the programme to end abruptly.
The thugs also reportedly overpowered police officers at the venue forcing the organisers of the event to invite men of Nigeria Army from Owode area of the local government.
