Abdulwahab Ogunbiyi, the new Managing Director, Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), on Friday assured Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators in waste management of payment of their outstanding arrears.
A statement by the authority’s Head, Press and Public Relations, Mr Lookman Seriki, said Ogunbiyi gave the assurance during his maiden interactive session with waste management stakeholders.
“The authority will continue to make available all necessary infrastructure and technical assistance for the private collectors to enhance their services.
“The authority will also facilitate the release of PSP operators’ outstanding arrears as well as ensure prompt payment for services,” said the statement made available to NAN in Lagos.
According to the statement, LAWMA needs the PSPs to carry out its mandate of ensuring that every nook and cranny of the state is free of waste.
It said that LAWMA did not have the responsibility to carry waste around alone but to manage and regulate the activities of the PSPs.
It urged the stakeholders to key into the LAWMA’s objective and work as partners to ensure a cleaner and healthier state.
The statement said the authority had the intention of reorganising marine waste evacuation.
It added that those concerned should work in line with basic standards as “better days lie ahead”.
The statement said the stakeholders had requested for LAWMA’s support in the areas of infrastructure upgrading and prompt payment for services.
It disclosed that about 350 waste management stakeholders attended the interactive session at the Agege Transfer Loading Station. …Read More
