Shopkeeper bolts with employer’s N600k

A shopkeeper, Chinelo Ihenacho, who allegedly bolted with her employer’s N600,000, was on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos, southwest Nigeria.
Ihenacho, 24, a resident of 52, Shasha Road, Akowonjo, Lagos, is being tried at an Ikeja Magistrates’ court for stealing.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Olatunde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 10 at Agege, Lagos.
He said that the accused absconded with N600,000 belonging to her employer, Mr Ifeanyi Ekwebelem.
Olatunde said that the accused was given the money by her boss to deposit it in his account.
“The accused ran away with the N600,000 to an unknown destination and converted the money into her own use.
“Anytime the complainant called her telephone number, she would not pick, but when he used another person’s number to call, she would pick and switch off after recognizing the voice of her boss.
“And when she hears the complainant’s voice on the phone, she will end the call.
“When she was finally arrested, she could not give a satisfactory answer as to what she did with the money,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Section 285 prescribes a three-year jail term as penalty for offenders.
The accused pleaded her innocence and was granted bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mr Aka Bashorun, adjourned the case till Sept. 15 for mention. …Read More
