Two brothers of the same parents have been arrested and charged before Isolo Magistrates’ Court for allegedly battering a pregnant woman and her husband over electricity bill in Lagos State, western Nigeria.
The suspects, Rabiu Rasaq, 42, and Sulaimon Rasaq, 38, allegedly assaulted Samuel Eke and his pregnant wife, Blessing, during a disagreement over payment of electricity bill.
The incident happened at 9 Bakare street, Mushin where they all reside.
It was learnt the house belongs to the suspects’ late father and there are many other children who are beneficiaries of the property.
They all live in the building and when it is time to pay electricity bill, they share it to other tenants without their own contribution.
Sources said this usually causes disagreement between the tenants and the late landlord’s children.
P.M.NEWS gathered that before Samuel Eke and his wife moved into the house, the suspects had not been paying their electricity bill over the years and whenever a bill is brought, they ask the tenants to pay while one meter serves the entire building.
Trouble started after the Rabiu and Sulamon asked Eke for his contribution to offset the electricity bill and he insisted that he would not pay unless they contributed their own share.
This angered them and they allegedly grabbed Eke and Blessing and beat them up and damaged their property.
The matter was reported to the police at Olosun division and they were arrested and charged to court.
They are facing charge of assault and malicious damage under the Criminal Code.
They pleaded not guilt and the presiding Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Adebayo granted them bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
They were remanded in prison custody at Kirikiri pending when they will perfect their bail.
The matter was adjourned till 22 September, …Read More
