The Nasarawa Police Command says it has arrested five persons for allegedly operating a fake recruitment agency in Lafia, the state capital.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Ismaila Numan, who paraded the five suspects in Lafia on Friday, claimed that the syndicate extorted money from unsuspecting members of the public.
NAN reports that the recruitment agency is called “National Task Force to Combat the Illegal Importation of Small Arms, Ammunitions and Light Weapons.”
The police spokesman said that the arrest of the suspects followed an investigation carried out by the State Intelligence and Investigation Bureau.
He also said that the agency had no proper documentation to train and recruit applicants.
“Based on complaints and intelligence at the command’s disposal, on 6th September, 2015, at about 2:00 p.m., operatives attached to the State Intelligence and Investigation Bureau arrested a man who claimed to be the director of the organisation in the state,” he said.
Numan alleged that the dubious act of the agency came to limelight due to its inability to provide job opportunities to its clients who had already paid large sums of money to it.
“The organisation was organising and involving itself in training on paramilitary activities without necessary approval.
“This act constitutes a clear case of extortion. The victims have been demanding for the return of their money but got nothing,” he said.
The spokesman said investigation would unravel those behind the agency with a view to charging them to court.
NAN reports that items recovered from the suspects included police training manuals and 100 files of applicants with receipts of payments made. …Read More
