Chief Umana Unama has expressed shock over the death of Mrs Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, who died Saturday at the age of 99.
The wife to the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo died in her home in Ikenne, Ogun State.
In a statement, Umana, who was the All Progressive Candidate for the April election in Akwa Ibom State, lamented that the woman, popularly known as HID, died at a time her wise counsel was most needed.
He noted that Mrs Awolowo was not a symbol of unity for the Yoruba’s alone but the entire Nigeria.
Umana condoled with the government and people of Ogun State, Yorubas and all Nigerians over what he referred to as a huge loss.
“Though Chief Awolowo passed on a long time ago, her presence was a reminder of what the Sage stood for. HID lived a life of service. She was not only a symbol of unity for Yorubas but the entire nation and Akwa Ibom people join in mourning this huge loss”, he said.
The gubernatorial candidate urged Nigerian leaders to take a cue from the Awolowo family and avoid selfishness. “It should be about the people at all times”,he said.
Umana added: “The woman, HID emphasised the role of women in nation building, because apart from presenting a strong pillar for her husband to lean on, she ensured that his legacies were preserved after his death.”
He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the family and all Nigerians fortitude to bear the loss. …Read More
