The Nigerian Police have tightened security at the Millennium Park, Abuja to safe guard the lives and properties of fun seekers.
NAN correspondent who visited the park on Sunday, noted an unusual traffic jam at the entrance of the park.
Some of the fun seekers, who spoke to NAN, attributed the unusual traffic to screening and checking of cars entering the park by police officers.
A police officer, who pleaded anonymity, said that, though there was regular security presence at the park, the Ed-el Fitri celebration prompted the beefing up of security to avoid any mishap.
“There is usually security presence here every day but the celebration of Sallah has made us beef up security to avoid any bomb blast or calamity.
“We have deployed our men into and around the park to ensure that people trooping into the park to have fun and their properties are safe,” he said.
Mrs Hauwa Sule, who said she was having picnic with her family at the park, commended the police, saying their presence at the park made her feel safe.
She said she brought her family to the park to have good time.
Mr Israel Chukwu said the public holidays afforded him the opportunity to relax and have fun with his family.
He commended the government for the security in the park, saying the presence of policemen showed that the government prioritises the safety of the masses.
“The presence of policemen will scare away anyone who intends to disrupt the peace and this has brought about the serenity we are witnessing in the park,” he said. …Read More
