No cholera outbreak in Akwanga-Nasarawa, says council boss

The Chairman Akwanga Local Government Area, Nassarawa state, Mr Abashiya Koto, on Sunday debunked speculations of cholera outbreak in the area, saying it was untrue.
Koto told the Newsmen in Akwanga that the local government area had not experience any form of cholera outbreak in recent times.
According to him, no live was lost as a result of cholera outbreak in the area as alleged in some quarters.
He, however, admitted that some lives were lost in the area due to some sort of epidemic.
“Let me tell you that it is not true that there was cholera outbreak in this area.
‘’But it is true that three persons lost their lives last Sunday due to diarrhea and vomiting, but it was not cholera as alleged in some quarters in the state.
“When the council heard that three persons died in Gudi Primary Healthcare Clinic in this local government, I went there personally with health experts, including officials of the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The health experts took a sample and conducted a test and it was discovered that it was diarrhea and vomiting and not cholera as was being speculated.
“I want to call on the people to remain calm and should not panic as my administration is ready at all times, to improve on their health services,“ he said.
Koto advised Nigerians to improve on their personal and environmental hygiene, saying that it was one of the surest ways of preventing and guarding against diseases.
He urged Nigerians to avoid dumping of refuse into gutters, markets and other unauthorised places so as to improve the nation’s health indices.
On security, the council boss advised his subjects and other Nigerians to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religion and political affiliations. …Read More
