The performance of the Super Eagles against Swaziland in their first match of the FIFA World Cup qualifying series on Friday has put a question mark on the ability of Nigeria to secure a ticket for Russia 2018 tournament.
A lowly rated Sihlangu Semnikati of Swaziland held the Nigerian team to a barren draw at the Somholo National Stadium on Friday in the first leg second round of the World Cup qualifiers.
Former Nigerian international, Jonathan Akpoborie, wondered why Sunday Oliseh and his Eagles could not win an important away fixture, which happened to be the first match in the qualifying series.
Akpoborie lamented that the away draw was not only a bad signal but a sign of a deplorable state of the Nigerian senior national team.
“I must confess, we are not doing well as a team. The performance of these Eagles against Swaziland was one of the worst I will see under Oliseh. This was a match we supposed to win on a good day, but we went to Swaziland to play a draw. It’s not good for us at all,” Akpoborie said.
The Eagles will host Sihlangu Semnikati on Tuesday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt in the reverse fixture.
The aggregate winners of the two-legged encounter will qualify for the group stage of the World Cup qualifying race. …Read More
