A solar power plant
Manchok community in Kaduna State has refuted claims by Quaint Global Energy Nigeria Ltd of conducting an environment social impact assessment for the establishment of a solar energy plant in the community.
In a petition written by Hados and Company Royal Chamber to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC on behalf of Manchok community, the community stated that Quaints Global Energy’s claim in the impact report were false and misleading.
The petition was also forwarded to the Governor of Kaduna State, Federal Minstry of Environment, Federal Ministry of Power and Steel, Kaduna State Ministry of Land and Survey, Kaduna State Ministry of Agriculture, Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission and Nigeria Bulk Electricity Trading Plc.
The community claimed that Quaint only paid a courtesy visit to the chief of Moro’a once to see the proposed site for the Manchok 50MW solar photovoltaic plant in Kaura Local Government Area, Kaduna State.
Insisting that the company should be investigated, the community claim that the two global social impact assessments reports which the company used to secure a $5million Power Africa Initiative grant is misleading.
Part of the petition read: “There is no sensitization activity or visibility of Quaint Global Energy Nigeria Ltd in our community. We only read about Quaint in the media and social networks. The evacuation approval by Transmission Company of Nigeria was never conducted and there has been no engineering works carried out by Quaint on site”
“The chiefdom and the people of Manchok find it disrespectful that the picture of their chief is being used on the website of Quaint without his knowledge and consent.”
“The community also finds it misleading reading in the media about a project that there is no visibility or sensitization.”
