The Ogun State Government has disclosed that it would soon take delivery of vaccine that cure lassa fever, adding that it put measures in place to prevent the disease from spreading to the state.
The statement issued on Saturday was signed by the Press Officers in the Health Ministry, Ebunlomo Taiyese and Adeniyi Akinbobola.
The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Babatunde Ipaye in an interview with newsmen Friday evening, after sensitization meeting on 2016 Measles Follow-Up Campaign in the State with all the 20 Local Government Caretaker Chairmen at Ibara Housing Estate, Abeokuta, disclosed that the State Government would do all it could to prevent the disease from spreading to the state.
Ipaye added that the state would soon take delivery of a vaccine that has the potential to save lives and prevent the spread of the disease.
According to him, “I have spoken with the Minister for Health on getting the vaccine and he has assured the state of receiving the vaccine that has the potential to cure the disease permanently.
“Also, I want to urge the good people of the state not to panic. The present administration led by Senator Ibikunle Amosun is on top of the situation.”
He further charged all the 20 LG Chairmen in the state to spread the campaign against the deadly disease, saying that, he has directed the Director of Public Health, in the Ministry of Health to embarked on a vigorous campaign against the disease in both print and electronic media.
He stressed that the campaign would sensitize the people of Ogun State on steps to be taken to prevent an outbreak of the deadly disease which has claimed at least 40 lives in some states.
