Inquest ordered into failed Warri jail break, …heads to roll

Sequel to the failed jail break and riot at the federal prisons in Warri, Delta state on January 16, there are indications that heads may soon roll at the prisons.
It would be recalled that riot had broke out over the lack of water, electricity also due to the high handedness of the officer in charge of the prisons.
The officer was accused of cornering for himself items donated to the inmates by charity organizations and concerned individuals.
It has been gathered that the Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Bello Dambanzua (rtd) ordered for an administrative inquest into the immediate and remote cause of the failed jail break.
Based on the directive, top officers of the Prison Service and Assistant Controller General of Prisons, Zone G, Benin have made a fact-finding visit to the Warri Prisons on Sunday less than 24 hours after failed jail break.
It was gathered that the officer in charge of the Warri Prisons, ASP Jude Okoro was asked to report immediately at Prisons Zonal Office, Benin on Monday, January 18, 2016.
“There are strong indications that heads may roll over the riot in the Warri Prisons. As I am speaking to you now the officer in charge has been asked to report at the Prisons Zonal Office, Benin and it is possible that he may not come back to the prisons,” a source said, adding that, “the inmates of the Warri Prisons have been clamouring for his removal and now that he has been asked to report at the Prisons Zonal Office, Benin, I doubt if he will be allowed to comeback to Warri Prisons where he is hated so much by the inmates.
