Ekiti State civil servants who arrived late to work begging Governor Ayo Fayose during his unscheduled visit to the state secretariat
At least 1,280 Ekiti workers on Saturday sat for the 2014 public service promotion examination.
This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Mr Seun Ogunsakin, the Press Officer to the HOS, Dr Gbenga Faseluka, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti.
The statement quoted Faseluka as saying the exercise was a demonstration of the commitment of Gov. Ayo Fayose to developing a virile public service.
Faseluka also said the exercise was in line with the governor’s pledge not to retrench workers nor reduce the minimum wage in spite of the financial challenges in the country.
He further explained that the promotion examination would protect, preserve and develop the state’s public service.
Faseluka said the present administration in the state depended on the civil service for the actualisation of its policies and programmes.
“The priority of Governor Ayo Fayose-led government is to preserve, protect and develop the civil service institution in Ekiti State.
“You must have listened to him severally that the welfare of workers in Ekiti State is the priority of his government and this he has demonstrated,” the statement quoted Faseluka as saying.
He urged the workers to always avail themselves of the Public Service Rules and Regulation as a way of equipping themselves with more knowledge for efficiency.
The statement also quoted the State chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Raymond Ade-Adesanmi, who wrote the promotion examination, as commending the state government for acceding to workers’ call for 2014 promotion.
Ade-Adesanmi added that the examination was well organised, saying that the labour unions were initially skeptical about its conduct.
