Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose
Dr Temitope Aluko, who was secretary of the Ekiti state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has revealed how former president, Goodluck Jonathan gave Governor Ayodele Fayose a total of $37 million (N4.7bn) as war chest for the Ekiti governorship election in 2014, a witness to the transaction has said.
Aluko made the startling revelation during a press conference in Abuja on Sunday, noting that, of the money, $35million was brought to Fayose by Defence chief, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
He added that Fayose also received N3billion from Senator Buruji Kashamu in 2013 to revive the PDP in Ekiti state.
Aluko said he was forced to come forward with the revelations because Fayose betrayed him and derailed from the original plan they had for the development of the state. He said he was to be made the chief of staff, but Fayose reneged on the agreement, just as he claimed, Fayose has derailed from the ‘Ekiti Project’ as envisioned.
According to Aluko, who said he was part Fayose’s inner circle during the election. He alleged that Jonathan initially gave the incumbent Ekiti governor a first tranche of $2 million in March 2014 for the primary election.
He noted that this cash was collected at the NNPC headquarters in Abuja and was taken to Fayose’s private house, in Abuja before it was moved to Ekiti.

“Immediately after the primary election, we collected. another $35 million from Jonathan on June 17, 2014. The money was brought to us by the former Minister of State for Defence, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro.
Aluko said a bureau de change in Onitsha converted the money to naira.
