Leadership of the National Assembly on Monday pledged to ensure that construction of multi-billion Naira National Institute of Legislative Studies (NILS) complex was completed.
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki and the Speaker, House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, on Monday pledged to complete the construction of the multi-billion naira.
Speaking after inspecting the project, located on Airport Road, Abuja, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, said that the National Assembly was committed to completing the complex.
He said that although the complex was important to the functions of the assembly, it would sponsor its completion based on availability of funds.
In his remarks, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, expressed the hope that on completion, the institute would serve as a prime training centre for legislators in Nigeria and beyond.
“What we can do in the face of dwindling resources is to identify priority segments of the project and try to complete them so that we can immediately put the place into use.
“This answers the question of how the National Assembly has been utilizing its budgetary allocation,” he said.
Earlier, the project’s architect, Mr Zingak Gomwalk, told newsmen that the project which had reached 26 per cent completion, was sitting on an eight acre land.
He disclosed that work on the site was stopped in March, 2015, due to lack of fund, saying however, that part of the N52 billion contract sum had been released.
NAN reports that the project which started in 2013 was projected for completion in 24 months. …Read More
