LASU Radio 95.7 FM begins transmission

The Lagos State University Campus Radio 95.7 FM, a.k.a. Lively and Solidly Unique, has ‎begun a six-hour daily transmission from Monday to Friday.
Mr Muyiwa Ojekunle, the Station Manager, told NAN in Lagos on Wednesday that ‎six programmes have been lined up for broadcast.
According to him, the transmission, which started on Tuesday, will run from 8:00a.m. to 2:00p.m.
“One of the programmes is the breakfast show called ‘LASGIDI Morning Groove’, where newspaper headlines are analysed,” he said.
“It is a developmental radio and its mission is to positively transform the students, staff and the university community,” Ojekunle added.
He said the transmission was smooth and that there were plans to increase the broadcast hours in a few months’ time.
According to him, students have been anchoring the programmes because it is meant for them and there have also been volunteers from different departments and faculties.
“Students from other departments aside from mass communication, who have flare for broadcasting, have volunteered as presenters for different programmes,” he said.
Ojekunle said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Lanre Fagbohun, had set up a committee comprising the Dean of School of Communication, the station manager and other heads of departments, to oversee the running of the station.
According to him, the committee is expected to fashion out how to expand the programme broadcast on the station within three months.
Fagbohun was the first guest of the station. Interview with him was transmitted live at the Ojo campus of the institution on Wednesday.
He was interviewed by two final year students of the School of Communication (LASUSOC), Miss Senayon Thomas and Sarah Ofenedu‎.
The VC lauded the effort of the radio presenters and managers, assuring them of the university management’s commitment and support toward the development of the station.
