Man to pay N100k for threatening pregnant woman

A Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Thursday granted bail to a middle-aged man, Nwakaego Ibekwe in the sum of N100,000 for allegedly threatening a pregnant woman, Ifeoma Okonkwo.
Ibekwe of Sahara Estate, Lokogoma, Abuja, pleaded not guilty to the charges of criminal intimidation, wrongful restraint, attempted culpable homicide, resistance of lawful arrest and obstruction of public in discharging lawful duty.
The Judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, ordered the defendant to produce one reliable surety in like sum.
Kagarko said that the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, and adjourned the case till May 4 for hearing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Urom Inah, told the court that Ifeoma Okonkwo of Lingo Estate, Lokogoma, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on February 28.
Inah said the defendant used his phone to send threatening messages to Okonkwo, used blocks and stones to obstruct the entrance to her house as well as lighted candles and broke some eggs, while repeatedly calling her name and that of her husband.
He said the defendant also resisted arrest when he was invited for questioning by the police.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Section 397B, 256, 259, 173, and 148 of the Penal Code. …Read More
