Mr. Jenkins Alumona, CEO of Flykite Productions, organisers of GOtv Boxing Night, has disclosed that the sixth edition of the tournament will offer blockbuster entertainment that will combine boxing and football.
GOtv Boxing Night 6, which holds at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos on 25 March, will witness a rekindling of Nigeria/Ghana sports rivalry, when Abolaji “Afonja Warrior” Rasheed takes on Ghana’s Adjei Sowah in the West African middleweight title fight, the biggest bout at the event.
The event holds on the same day the Super Eagles are taking on the Pharaohs of Egypt in an African Cup of Nations qualifying match. According to Alumona, arrangements have been concluded for the installation of a giant TV screen at the venue to enable fans watch the match and the boxing tourney one after the other.
“The match starts by 5pm. Fans can come, buy their tickets for the boxing match and they will be allowed into the venue to watch the match on a big screen, after which they can watch fights at GOtv Boxing Night 6.”
Another major bout at GOtv Boxing Night will see Nigeria’s Olaide “Fijaborn” Fijabi fight Djamiou Ekekpo of the Republic of Benin for the West African light welterweight title.
The event will also see Hogan Jimoh Jnr., son of boxing legend, Hogan Jimoh, take on Oto “Joe Boy” Joseph in a national lightweight challenge contest. Another fight in that division will be between pro debutants, Michael “Show” Roland and Nwoye “Lion” Prince.
In the super middleweight category, Matthew “Wizeman” Obinna will trade punches with Yusuf “Koste” Moshood, while Saidi “Attacker” Lawal will take on Samuel “Godspower” Elegbede.
The best boxer on the night will win N1 million and the Mojisola Ogunsanya Memorial Trophy.
GOtv Boxing Night 6 will be broadcast live on SuperSport in 47 African countries.
