Mudashiru Obasa, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has blamed former president, Goodluck Jonathan, for the plight of the over 200 Chibok girls who were abducted by the Boko Haram terrorist group two years ago.
Obasa further said President Muhammadu Buhari inherited the challenge of rescuing the girls because the previous administration refused to do anything to recover the girls.Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa
Obasa, who commended countries that have shown concern over the abduction, then added: “we want to call on President Muhammadu Buhari to help find the girls.
“We read that Boko Haram members once demanded a huge amount of money to free the girls. The girls are our future leaders, so the Federal Government should search for them to restore the confidence of Nigerians in the system.”
Other lawmakers supported the Speaker.
In his contribution, Moshood Oshun, the representative of Lagos Mainland Constituency 2, noted that the girls were alive and knocked cynics who have argued that the abduction is a hoax.
According to him, about 15 of the girls were recently featured in a video shown on CNN, which he said was seen by the girls’ parents.
“We once requested for supports from the United Kingdom and the United States of America on the matter; they yielded to the request and sent some of their military men to Nigeria, but the men were recalled as they alleged that they did not get the necessary support from the Federal Government,” he lamented.
Contributing to the motion, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House, Olumuyiwa Jimoh, urged the Federal Government to locate the girls and bring back joy to the parents of the children.
