The Police in the Federal Capital Territory have assured residents of the area of adequate security during the Eid-El-Fitri celebration.
The Commissioner of Police in the territory, Mr Alkali Usman, gave the assurance at a news conference on Monday in Abuja.
He explained that the command had evolved some measures to ensure effective security during the period.
“Ahead of the forthcoming Eid-El-Fitr celebration, the command has developed an operation order that will effectively cover the security arrangement at all praying grounds to forestall any security breach.
“This arrangement also covers the recreational centres which will also be a beehive of activities,” he said.
Usman said that all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers had been properly briefed of their respective roles as it relates to the celebration.
“I want to seize this medium to advise Muslim faithful to guard against carrying bags and baggage to praying grounds.
“They are to only carry along their praying mats. This is not to inconvenience the worshippers but it is a precautionary measure to guard against any eventuality,” he said.
The commissioner said that the command had a security meeting with Imams and leaders of respective mosques and praying grounds in FCT to brainstorm and strategise to attain hitch-free celebration.
“My priority as the commissioner of police is to see to the reduction of crime to the barest minimum, since it is almost impossible to have a society that is totally free of crime,” he said.
He said that having studied the peculiar security nature of the FCT, the command would come up with strategies to combat them.
“The command under my leadership has evolved viable crime fighting strategies that have started turning in remarkable result,” he said.
Usman assured FCT residents of the command’s preparedness and determination to rid Abuja and its environs of criminals.
