Japanese Ambassador to Nigeria, Sadanobu Kusaoke, has advocated for a strong economic tie between Nigeria and Japan as a panacea for peace and prosperity for both countries.

The envoy made this call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

Kusaoke noted that both countries have all it takes to positively impact a global economy.

He lauded the healthy relationship between Nigeria and Japan which he attributed to the mutual understanding between the leadership of the two countries.

While noting that Nigeria’s economy is currently going through some hiccups, Kusaoke, however, expressed optimism in the ability of the country to overcome its present challenges.

The ambassador said that “the current trade volume between Nigeria and Japan stood at about 40 billion U.S. dollars” in favour of Nigeria.

He urged both countries to strive to achieve balance of trade in the interest of developing each other’s economy.

According to him, the trade volume can get better if the business environment is given the attention it deserved.

Besides, Kusaoke urged both countries to embrace economic diversification as means of developing each other’s economy in the face of dwindling oil prices.

The envoy also reiterated his country’s resolve to continue to support Nigeria in the best way it can.

“We (Japan) have been supporting Nigeria through humanitarian assistance, training and empowerment,” he said, adding “we are also planning to expand it further”.
