Two persons were shot dead on Wednesday in Enugu during a gun duel between men of the underworld and the police in the state.

The robbers, numbering nine, it was learnt, raided several parts of the state in an operation which lasted several hours.

A police source disclosed that the robbers attacked a company on the New Market Road before moving to Obiagu Roundabout, popularly called Council, where they killed a driver, identified as “Ayaka”.

The Police Public Relations Office, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the incident, saying two of the hoodlums had been arrested, while one was shot dead.

Amaraizu in a statement said: “‎The Enugu state commissioner of police, Emmanuel Ojukwu has applauded his operatives on their effort leading to the arrest of two of the hoodlums, with one other shot dead.

“The ‎hoodlums had operated around Edingburgh /ogui new layout axis and some of the metro in the afternoon, which led to the death one person before operatives of the command confronted them headlong and ensured that they did not have a free day.

“Meanwhile manhunt on other members of the gang are on as operatives are still combing.”
