Indications have emerged that some unscrupulous politicians have been recruiting soldiers to cause unrest in the land.
This unholy fraternity of some soldiers with disgruntled politicians was exposed in a statement issued by spokesman of the Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman on Tuesday.
The statement quoted the Chief Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai as warning officers and soldiers of the army to steer clear of politics or have themselves to blame.
Buratai rather advised personnel, who were interested in politics, “to resign their commission or apply for voluntary discharge forthwith.”
Usman said the warning followed information received by Buratai that “some individuals have been approaching some officers and soldiers for undisclosed political reasons.”
