Stop praying and start working, Osinbajo tells civil servants

As Nigeria faces an economic malaise and President Muhammadu Buhari is out of the country on sick leave, the country’s vice-president has a clear message for civil servants: Stop praying and start working.

Yemi Osinbajo, is a Christian pastor himself, and currently the acting president of Africa’s most populous country while Buhari recovers from illness in the U.K.

In an address to civil servants in the capital Abuja Wednesday, Osinbajo urged Nigeria’s public workforce to rely on their own efforts, and not their spiritual supplications, to improve the state of the country.

“Great economies and great nations, prosperity and abundance of nations and communities are created by men and not spirits,” said Osinbajo, 60, who was a pastor of a church in Lagos before taking public office.
