Senator Dino Melaye’s Recall: INEC seeks intervention of Chief Justice of Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has sought the intervention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) Justice Walter Onnoghen, over a court order truncating the recall process of Senator Dino Melaye,representing Kogi West.

The Federal High Court Abuja on 6 July directed the parties in the recall process to maintain the status quo and adjourned hearing of the Motion on Notice till 29 September.

INEC had earlier fixed 19 July for verification of signatures for the recall process.

Prof. Okechukwu Ibeanu, National Commissioner and acting Chairman of INEC said in a statement he issued on Saturday in Abuja that the commission decided to seek the intervention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria in the matter because the 90-day timeframe established by the Constitution for the entire recall…
