South Korean Prosecutors have sought to extend the detention of impeached President Park Geun-hye, as the current confinement was set to expire in October, according to local media reports on Tuesday.

The prosecution office asked a Seoul court to issue another warrant to hold Park in custody as the current detention was scheduled to expire on Oct. 16.

The prosecutors claimed the questioning of witnesses with the knowledge that Park’s case would not be completed by mid-October.

By domestic law, an arrest warrant allows a criminal suspect to be detained for as long as six months and if approved, Park would be in custody for six more months.

Park’s lawyers were suspected of demanding the questioning of a number of witnesses to delay the trial and make Park stand trial without detention.
