United stumble at Basel, needs draw in last game to qualify

Manchester United missed the chance to book their place in the Champions League last 16 as Basel scored an 89th-minute winner in Switzerland.

United dominated the first half, with Marouane Fellaini and Marcos Rojo hitting the woodwork, BBC reports.

But Basel were rejuvenated after the break, with Renato Steffen and Dimitri Oberlin going close.

And Michael Lang turned in Raoul Petretta’s cross at the back post to spark jubilation around St Jakob Park.

A point against CSKA Moscow in their final group game on 5 December would guarantee United their place in the knockout stage.
