UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says states in the South-South geopolitical zone still have major challenges in water coverage, sanitation, immunisation coverage, reducing malnutrition and stunted growth among children.
The fund highlighted these challenges at the annual review meeting of Rivers Field Office of UNICEF held in Yenagoa on Friday.
Mr Wilbroad Ngambi, the Chief of field office, UNICEF Rivers Field Office, said the problems were as a result of difficult terrains, inadequate budget by states and frequent strikes in the area.
He said others problems included the delay in the release of counterpart funding, the lack of political will as major restraints affecting UNICEF and its state’s partners from covering the states under review.
