Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was not the buyer of the Leonardo da Vinci’s paint of Jesus Christ which sold for a record $450.3 million at a New York auction last month, a Saudi official has said.

New-York based Christie’s auction house has also denied the report by the Wall Street Journal, which said that the Crown Prince, known as MbS, was identified as the buyer of the painting in U.S. intelligence reports, according to people with direct knowledge of the information.

On the contrary, Christie’s auction house said the paint, known as ‘Salvator Mundi’, world’s saviour, was acquired by Abu Dhabi’s Department of Culture and Tourism.

“Christie’s can confirm that the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi is acquiring ‘Salvator Mundi’ by Leonardo da Vinci,” the auction house said in a statement.
