Soldiers to retain “essential check points”

Nigeria’s military chiefs after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on the directive on the removal of check points nationwide, have resolved to retain check points they consider essential in dealing with insecurity.
A source familiar with the outcome of the meeting, said that the service chiefs argued that the president did not say that “all” road blocks be dismantled, but that non-essential ones which have contributed to traffic snarl, be removed.
The president had on Monday ordered the Chief of Defence Staff and the Inspector- General of police to dismantle all military check points across Nigeria.
