Suspected Boko Haram terrorist in the early hours of Friday detonated an improvised explosive device (IED), killing scores.
The bomb explosion which occurred at the popular Gamboru market in Maiduguri, capital of Borno state, also left several people injured.
Actual number of casualty could not be ascertained but security and emergency officials have moved the injured to the hospital.
The dreaded Boko Haram insurgents have killed thousands mostly in the north-eastern part of Nigeria in the past few years.
President Muhammadu Buhari, in his inaugural speech on May 29, 2015, promised to end insurgency and as a step towards achieving this, he has ordered the military authorities to relocate Command Centre to the war zone.
But despite the government’s threat, the terrorists have intensified deadly bomb attacks in the the frontline states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe.
