Folarinde Falana better known as Falz, has continued to enjoy his career decision of doing music professionally after dumping his father’s law firm for the studio.
Falz however found it tough to convince his mother who is also a lawyer and pastor to allow him go into music.
According to a statement by respected lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana who is the rapper’s father, while it was easier for him to accept Falz’s decision, his wife was initially reluctant.
‘Don’t force any course on your children; don’t insist that they must be a doctor or a lawyer. My son Folarin, who was working in our chambers, came to inform me one day that he wanted to leave. I said I could find him a place in one of my friends’ chambers. But he said no, ‘I’m going to be a musician’. When I asked why, he convinced me but he couldn’t convince his mother because she’s also a lawyer.
‘Today, he’s doing well as a musician and not as a lawyer. So let’s debate with our children to know what they want to do,’ he advised parents at an educational program in Ibadan, Oyo state recently.
Falz’s mum, Funmi Falana is a partner at the Falana and Falana’s Chambers. She is also a former lecturer at the University of Lagos.
Falz has continued to rise in the Nigerian music scene. He recently dropped the video for his Phyno featured single, Karishika.
